Front Yard Reconstruction Update

I started with the outside facing portion of the retaining wall. This is a very slow process for two reasons: first, with my work schedule and everything else, I only get 30 or 45 minutes at a time to work on this. Second, the retaining wall foundation is the most important. The drainage gravel needs to be several inches thick, packed tight, and level. The retaining wall stones need to be perfectly level. If the foundation is done correctly then the rest of the task is simply stacking the stones.

Retirement Party

This weekend I attended a retirement party for my brother. My oldest brother retired a little more than a year ago after a stroke impacted his ability to work. My second oldest brother began a career as a police office and then finished 25 years as a prison guard.

Front Yard Reconstruction Project

This year's major project will be the Front Yard Reconstruction Project. Years ago I created a rock garden with a water fountain, but over the years the ground has settled and sunk. So, Part One of the project involves removing the marble rock, raise the ground and grade it, return the stone and bring in more marble stone. But I'm also about upgrading. So I am extending the retaining wall for the garden. I am going to install a lamp post at the end of the garden. That means I need to bury and run new electrical conduit to the lamp post and to the water fountain.

Phase two involves widening the driveway. My daughter's car is added to our car collection so we need to make the driveway wider and have more pull off areas.

Check back often for updates on the project's progress!
