Gym Project: Electrical

The goal of this project is to hang a new TV in the home gym. During the last update, I had installed a new stud and attached some electrical boxes.
One box is for low voltage (cable TV, HDMI, speaker wire) and the other box is for high voltage (electrical outlet).

An important thing to remember is to keep high and low voltage separated. Even with shielding, you risk having the high voltage cause interference with the low voltage.

After the breaker was turned off, the electrical wire was ran. This box was added into an existing circuit. Even though the wire will be live when I flip on the breaker, I don't want to attach the outlet yet. The outlet gets attached after the drywall is hung.

An important note about doing electrical work in your house: I am a certified low voltage contractor. I am not NEC certified. Most local building codes require a certified electrician to do electrical work. Failure to do so could be a code violation and your home insurance company could find you liable if there were ever a fire. The purpose of this blog is neither to confirm nor deny that I do any of the electrical work. Even though I promote DiY in most cases, I recommend using a qualified electrician.

Ok, that's done. Next? The low voltage.
Eventually the low voltage will run behind the mirrors to the corner of the room. For now, I just need them out of the way so I can get the drywall installed.

Next up? The drywall!
