The first question everyone has? Why do gyms have mirrors? The answer: when weight lifting, if your form isn't correct it can lead to injury. The first step for hanging a TV is to remove some mirrors.
When I built the gym I didn't put drywall behind the mirrors. I later felt this was a mistake because I was being cheap. But now I am really happy because I need to add another stud to position the TV where I want it. The TV bracket must bolt into a stud, so, if the wall had been drywalled? My options would have been limited.
Next step? Have to cut away the mirror support with my saws-all. Then sand down the rough edge.
Then I cut a new 2x4 that will be the stud.
I make sure the new stud is plum (plum means it is straight up and down).
And then I screw it into place and add a couple of cross members for additional support.
Finally, I added boxes for the low voltage and high voltage electricity.
Next will be some electrical work. Some drywall. Some painting. And then I will bolt on the TV mount. Check back later for more updates!
